Elephant Ears

Now I don't know about you but my kids are obsessed with anything and everything cinnamon and sugar.  So now on this third week of After School Snacks we made Elephant Ears.  They are not to sweet and are soft with that perfect crunch!  My girls chowed these right down after school and were super excited to have a dessert with cinnamon and sugar.  Fry away!

NOTE: This recipe was very watery I had to add 2 Cups extra of flour to make the dough ball up

1 cup Milk
1 cup Warm Water
2 Tablespoons Active Dry Yeast
1 Teaspoon Salt
2 Tablespoons White Sugar
3 Tablespoons Shortening
4 cups All Purpose Flour
Oil for Deep Frying

FOR ELEPHANT EARS TOPPING:
4 tablespoons Sugar
2 Teaspoons Ground Cinnamon

Oil should be at 375*
Take a big bowl, add active dry yeast and warm water and let it stand for 10 to 12 minutes.
Combine warm milk, salt, white sugar, and shortening and mix well. Now add all purpose flour to make a smooth dough.
Take the dough to floured board and knead until it turns soft and elastic. Add some flour if it is watery. Cover the dough with a towel for 1 hour. Divide the dough into 12 to 15 balls and make each ball about 1/8 inch thick. Fry the balls on both sides for 1 to 2 minutes or until it is golden brown in color. Drain on paper towels. Finally sprinkle the elephant ears with sugar and cinnamon
