Peanut Butter Bars

So as I woke up this morning I heard my hubby say "Kayla can you make those peanut butter bars with that peanut butter frosting" and he trailed off.  He tends to say many random things while sleeping so I
ignored him. Then all of a sudden he yelled at me! "KAYLA did you hear me?   The wonderful hubby was wanting peanut butter bars at 7 am.  So as I was getting out of bed I just told him " I guess I am making Peanut Butter Bars today" lol

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • FROSTING:
  • 2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup milk
  • In a large bowl, cream the shortening, peanut butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
  • Transfer to a greased cake pan. Bake at 350° for 20-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
  • For frosting, in a small bowl, cream the peanut butter, shortening and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in enough milk to achieve spreading consistency. Frost bars.

  1. Kayla, they sound delicious. I can see why he was so insistent. This is my first visit to your blog, so I took some time to browse through your earlier posts. I'm so glad I did that. I really like the food and recipes you share with your readers and I'll definitely be back. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
